Privacy Policy

At WireLang™, user privacy is our core foundation. This Privacy Policy describes how the WireLang™ Live products — our browser extension and our desktop applications for Windows and macOS (including the version distributed through the Microsoft Store) — and our website collect, use, and process your data. The same principles apply across all of them: audio is processed transiently to produce a live translation and is never recorded or stored.

1. Audio Processing

The core function of WireLang™ Live is to capture audio that is already playing and translate it for you in real time. What is captured depends on the product you use:

• Browser extension: captures the audio output of your active browser tab (via the Web Audio API).
• Desktop apps: capture the audio your computer is playing — your system output / “loopback” audio — so they can translate audio from any application, not just a browser. On Windows this uses the operating system's WASAPI loopback; on macOS it uses ScreenCaptureKit (which macOS bundles under the “Screen & System Audio Recording” permission).

• Transient processing: Captured audio is processed purely in local memory and streamed over a secure (TLS) connection to Google Gemini Live and WireLang services as needed to produce the translation. It exists only for the moment it takes to translate.
• No recording or storage: We do not record, save, or write any audio to persistent storage. Once the translation is spoken back to you, the audio bytes are immediately discarded from memory.
• User-initiated: Capture only starts when you explicitly select a translation target and start a session, and it stops instantly when you stop the session, close the window, or quit the app.

2. Microphone Permission on Windows (Desktop App)

The Windows desktop app declares the microphone capability, and Windows may show that the app “uses your microphone.” We want to be transparent about why:

• We capture your computer's output audio, not your voice. WireLang's purpose is to translate the sound your computer is playing. Windows routes system-audio (loopback) capture through the same privacy permission it uses for microphone access, so the capability must be declared for the feature to work.
• We do not record from your microphone for the core translation feature, and we never store any audio. If a future feature uses your microphone directly, it will be clearly indicated in the app and described here first.
• Separate translated playback: WireLang plays translated speech separately from the original source audio. Your source app volume remains under your normal Windows and application controls.

3. Personally Identifiable Information

We use Google Sign-In (OAuth2) to authenticate your access to our backend API. In the desktop apps this happens in your system's default web browser using the secure PKCE flow — you never type your Google password into the app:

• Identity Data: We access your basic Google profile information (email address and display name) upon login to authenticate your session and link your account to your Firebase Authentication profile.
• Purpose: This information is used solely to keep track of your credit balance, log translation session usage, and handle transaction histories for top-ups. We do not share, sell, or rent your email address or personal identity to third parties.

4. Local Storage and Preferences

Our apps store a small amount of configuration locally on your device so you do not have to reconfigure them every time:

• Local Preferences: Settings such as your default target language, favorite voice, and translated voice volume are stored locally (in your browser for the extension, and on-device for the desktop apps) and are not part of your identity profile.
• “Bring Your Own Key” (BYO) stored locally: If you provide your own Google AI Studio API key for local-only use, it is stored on your device and used only to connect directly to Google's Gemini API. It is never transmitted to, processed by, or stored on WireLang servers, and it is not synced across your devices. You can remove it at any time from the app settings, which deletes it from local storage.
• “Bring Your Own Key” (BYO) saved to your WireLang account: If you instead choose to save a BYO key to your WireLang account (used by our credits/platform flow), it is encrypted with AES-256-GCM, transmitted only over TLS, stored in encrypted form, and never shown again or returned to any dashboard.

5. Third-Party Services

We leverage secure, industry-leading sub-processors to run our application:

• Google Cloud & Firebase: Used for secure authentication, hosting, and data management.
• Stripe: Used to process all payment transactions, which open in your browser on Stripe's secure checkout. We never see, store, or receive your credit card details or bank credentials.
• Fly.io: Hosts our WebSocket translation proxy routers and API servers under secure, TLS-encrypted tunnels.

6. Disclosures & Certifications

In compliance with the Google Chrome Web Store, the Microsoft Store, and the Apple platform guidelines, we certify that:

• We do not record or retain the audio we translate.
• We do not sell, rent, or transfer user data to third parties.
• We do not use user data for advertising, remarketing, or profiling purposes.
• We do not use user data to determine creditworthiness or for any lending decisions.

7. Children's Privacy

WireLang™ is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
